No support until maintenance is complete

We are NOT able to provide support for free clients until the current server maintenance is completed. Control panel login is back online, however you can’t use the ticket support system right now.

EDIT: Ticket support system in the control panel is back online…

- Fsockopen has never been enabled on the free servers, only on the premium plan.

That’s using sockets which is not the same like fsockopen. Please create a
support ticket if you can’t connect to remote SMTP using sockets.

can you confirm if you have enabled sendmail or fsockopen. I am unable to send mails to my readers.

I am not complaining about sendmail email delivery failure because it was there even before the maintenance started. So I used plugins to send emails from my wordpress site using gmail account using smtp. So I think that Fsockopen was earlier enabled on free accounts

How all servers AwardSpace, ByetHost to hostingfree are down and showing free signup disabled due to upgrade. Also same thing like timings etc???
Is it something like all servers in cohesion planned out?
I don’t think so that no one can sign up free account until this timer runs out.
But we can’t raise against it as they are providing services for free and they do and put any strategy they want. Just my two cents….

I also have a question. I created my account on xtreem host and got my domain on co.cc which is theanswer-site.co.cc, and when i add this domain in my control panel it said that I must wait about 72-75(I dont realy remember how much it was) well now its about 77 hours left and when i type my url to web search it does not point to index site, but to google search. What is wrong?

You could sign up for googles apps with your domain (for example the co.cc domain) and use their services including smtp/imap/pop3

You can add up to 50 domain names to 1 free account, so yes you can add your own domain names.

To let your scripts send emails using Google Apps, you need remote SMTP. Of course you can use Google Apps for creating mailboxes for your domain name.

Is there a free alternative method for sending email over your servers without using smtp, or remote smtp, or whatever it is. It seems standart sendmail() function doesn’t work. Is this about Google Apps? Because it’s enabled so I can’t use sendmail functionality???

I also got this error, and the thing I did it was that I went to my domain website which is co.cc and change te name servers to those you entered. And after 1 hour i tried to add domain again and it worked for me.

Really disappointed with SMTP decision. I hope you guys give us back that feature.

We need to enable sockets in order to provide remote SMTP access. Sockets
allow you to make remote connections and this is one of the things that
hackers are using.

Hi,
I am also disappointed with the SMTP decision. In the comments I read that the decision Remote SMTP has been disabled due to abuse. I am not complaining but I am curious to know one thing how can remote SMTP service used for abusive purpose. I mean if a person has SMTP support on his email then he can always use some desktop SMTP clients for abusive purpose like spamming or email bombing. Why will he need an online hosting account for this use.
I am just curious to know this

for the free clients, but this will need some time to analyze and develop.
We first need to focus on any other issues and to reopen new account
signups.

But can’t you do one thing like just enabling Port 25 and port Port 465(for gmail) rest all ports blocked. Atleast the SMTP mail service will work and even the hackers can be kept out of misusing the socket service.

ok. But try to find a secure solution soon. I really like the xtreemhost free hosting service and I don’t want to switch to some another hosting provider. You guys are really the best among the many hosting providers I have used so far. For now I am just switching the mail functionality of my wordpress blog to another hosting provider till you guys come up with a solution to this SMTP problem. I know there are security issues and your priorities too but you should still consider this that a blog owners who cannot communicate with his readers will soon loose huge traffic.

Ever since the maintenance is over, I’ve had problems. When I try to change the name of a file, most of the time it says this:
