My domain has been blocked
« on: April 13, 2011, 08:19:05 AM »
On Sunday, I found that my domain, digitalhead.co.cc, was blocked for some reason. I've sent messages to co.cc trying to get an answer, and all of the reasons they gave that my domain would have been blocked are wrong. I haven't spammed in any way, there's no malware on my site, and there's no phishing involved. It looks like someone was reporting co.cc domains in bulk, and I was told it was an "authorized organization". Since then, I've made several attempts to get the problem figured out, but I haven't heard anything back from them since Sunday.

Know of any other way for me to get my site back online? Google Analytics shows that there have been quite a few people trying to view my site and ending up using their cached version. There are a lot of links, including Bit.ly links, already out there pointing to digitalhead.co.cc, so if I get a new domain, and at some point, get things straightened out with co.cc, will it be possible for these links to still redirect to the proper page on the new domain?

I'm sorry to hear that, but I'm afraid there isn't much we can do about this. I would try keeping in contact with co.cc and they will have to unblock your domain name.

PARKING another domain name on your co.cc domain in your control panel wouldn't be a solution in that case. ADDING another domain name is a possibility, but then you have to move all files to the htdocs folder of your new domain name.

After creating a new domain, would it be possible to have the original redirect to the new one if and when it is unblocked? Possibly using a redirect script to change the domain name of the landing URL so a visitor will get to the right page?

So if my co.cc domain is unblocked after I setup a new domain for my site, would this be what I should put in the .htaccess to get people to the page they were trying to access? Or would I have to add more to redirect the base URL?

Code: [Select]
RedirectMatch ^/(.*) http://new.domain.com/$1

That should do it I guess. In case it's not working, just create a support ticket in your control panel and our techs can further check it.

Thanks for the great support glenn_admin. It appears that co.cc has unblocked my domain now, but I think I'll still be looking for a new one to prevent it from happening again. Seems like a lot of places simply don't like co.cc domains because of the people that do use it for abusive reasons.

A top level domain name is always better indeed, you might have a look at http://domains.servenets.com for cheap domain name registrations.
