Community Support / Re: My domain has been blocked

Thanks for the great support glenn_admin. It appears that co.cc has unblocked my domain now, but I think I'll still be looking for a new one to prevent it from happening again. Seems like a lot of places simply don't like co.cc domains because of the people that do use it for abusive reasons.

So if my co.cc domain is unblocked after I setup a new domain for my site, would this be what I should put in the .htaccess to get people to the page they were trying to access? Or would I have to add more to redirect the base URL?

Code: [Select]
RedirectMatch ^/(.*) http://new.domain.com/$1

After creating a new domain, would it be possible to have the original redirect to the new one if and when it is unblocked? Possibly using a redirect script to change the domain name of the landing URL so a visitor will get to the right page?

Community Support / My domain has been blocked
« on: April 13, 2011, 08:19:05 AM »
On Sunday, I found that my domain, digitalhead.co.cc, was blocked for some reason. I've sent messages to co.cc trying to get an answer, and all of the reasons they gave that my domain would have been blocked are wrong. I haven't spammed in any way, there's no malware on my site, and there's no phishing involved. It looks like someone was reporting co.cc domains in bulk, and I was told it was an "authorized organization". Since then, I've made several attempts to get the problem figured out, but I haven't heard anything back from them since Sunday.

Know of any other way for me to get my site back online? Google Analytics shows that there have been quite a few people trying to view my site and ending up using their cached version. There are a lot of links, including Bit.ly links, already out there pointing to digitalhead.co.cc, so if I get a new domain, and at some point, get things straightened out with co.cc, will it be possible for these links to still redirect to the proper page on the new domain?

General Chat / Re: How can I best recruit writers for my site?

Gingy, I don't have money available to offer for it. That's why it's more of a challenge to find people willing to contribute. However, I've found a site for guest bloggers. http://myblogguest.com

At that site, people exchange articles for links back to them. Still, the low ranking of my site might hinder me there, but it's still possible.

I'm still not sure how well that site will work out for me, but I also haven't put much attention into it either. For the time being, I don't mind coming up with articles to be posted every day since one of the several purposes of my site is to be work examples. If I decided to raise the priority of that purpose, I could do much better with my site, but right now, it's a hobby first, and work example second.

Thanks for the update. My site came back up, but moving a little on the slow side at the moment.

Hope it works out without too much trouble.

My website just went down a little bit ago, and I checked others that are listed in the forums here, which they appear to be down as well. Any ETA on when it will be back up?

... I found the problem. The RewriteBase and RewriteRule were set for my local server because I accidentally uploaded from my test server install instead of the extracted archive. I guess that's what I get for rushing. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I didn't make any changes from the start of the site, but it was replaced when I upgraded. Any ideas as to what I should look for?

This morning, I started getting an error 500 on all posts on my blog, but I was able to get the front page to load. This is after upgrading from Wordpress 3.0.5 to 3.1 yesterday, but things still seemed to work last night. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks, I thought it had to be setup at co.cc. I didn't even see that under the vistapanel.

It appears that Chrome disables certain parts of Javascript support. Maybe an alternative would be to skip the JS and use CSS or traditional HTML.

eHow.com has tutorials on both of these if you're interested.

Community Support / Setting up Zone Records at DNS for Google Apps

I'm trying to setup Google Apps with digitalhead.co.cc and need to add their settings to the zone records at CO.CC. Since zone records can't be used in conjunction with name server, how can this be done without interfering with the xtreemhost name server settings? Would I have to transfer these settings to the zone records? If so, how is this done?

Community Support / Re: 30 seconds to unzip a file??
« on: February 09, 2011, 09:26:15 AM »
You could do it manually using FTP.  Just extract the archive on your computer and upload it using an FTP client like Filezilla. This way, there's no server-side unzipping required. The Wordpress site has details on manual installation and upgrading. Manual installation is as simple as uploading all of the files and running the install script following the instructions. Manual upgrading is, for the most part, the same. When uploading the update, you can select to overwrite if the source is newer or a different size, which is not how Wordpress tells you to do it, but it works just the same.

Here's their page on updating, which includes manual updates. http://codex.wordpress.org/Updating_WordPress
