New feature: FTP over SSL!
With affect immediately, all free hosting accounts can access FTP over SSL. This gives the advantage of ensuring that your username and password are encrypted while being sent over the network. We have been seeing more and more accounts being hacked/comprimised due to viri/malware on the client computer sniffing for FTP passwords going across the wire. Using FTP over SSL negates this risk.
The simplest way to use this is to install FileZilla. There, configure the site manager like below:
Host: ftp.xtreemhost.com
Port: 21
Servertype: FTPES (FTP over explicit TLS/SSL)
Logontype: normal
User: xth_username
Password: your password
This will then cause your FTP-sessions to be encrypted!
